Drones 101: Piloting Fundamentals

  • Always wanted to fly a drone but don’t know where to start? Drones 101 is for you! This 2 hour training will get you started with all the basics and in no time you will be flying the DJI Mavic Pro and exploring SMART flight modes. The best part is that all the footage you capture is yours to keep!

    We start this class with a lecture on rules/regulations, setups, settings, checklist, and other things to know related to safety, as safety is our #1 priority. After the lecture, we get you out on the field for some hands-on training! At the end of this course, students will have the fundamental skills and knowledge to safely pilot drones. This course is held in person with hands-on flying in the field.

Drones 107: Part 107 License Test Prep

  • Upon completing this course, students will be prepared to take the FAA Part 107 exam for commercial operations. This course is purely lecture based (no flying).

    Includes access to live online tutoring with our instructors

  • Self Paced - Generally students take about 20 hours of studying or about 3 weeks

Drones 121: STEM Drone Introduction

  • The course will teach students the fundamentals of drone development and the skills necessary to program a drone. At the last class, students will have the chance to program their drone in a fun competition.

    The goal is to motivate students to see how STEM skills are used throughout the development and application of drones. This course is a great steppingstone for those interested in a technical career path in the drone industry or aspiring hobbyists. This course is spread over several sessions held in both classroom and field settings.

  • 8 hours total (1 hour or 2 hour sessions)

Drones 151: FPV Fundamentals

  • • Computer (ideally with GPU)

    • Stable broadband internet connection

    • Drones 101 by Sensofly (Or prior drone flight experience)

    • FPV Drone (see section recommended drones)

  • First Person Video is an exciting high paced style of drone flying that is typically used for racing or to capture daredevil style shots. Get the thrill of flying up to 100mph while competing with others. Fly through gates and perform acrobatic flips. Film in tight spots with a cinewhoop.

    As FPV drones are typically custom made and break often from inevitable crashes, this class also covers the fundamentals skills needed to fix drones (identifying and purchasing parts, installing, soldering). This course is spread over several sessions held in both classroom and field settings.

    We will start off with a lecture on: FPV Overview, Example FPV drones, Components

    Then talk about Drone Racing League (DRL) rules, FPV Simulator, Flight Modes.

    After our lecture, we will get out on the field to practice! Fly through gates, Drills, Betaflight Tuning Software

    Lastly, we will talk about build drones, repair parts, choosing components, and soldering skills.

    Learning Outcomes

    -Set up, connect, and adjust settings for FPV drones

    -Fly FPV drones in manual mode

    -Fly FPV through a race course

    -Restore drones from crashes through identifying and purchasing parts

Drones 201: Aerial Photography & Video

Drones 301: Mapping and Inspection

  • Drones open the way for on demand high resolution orthomosiac maps and 3D models for inspection, construction, surveying, and agriculture applications.

    After this course, students will understand mapping concepts, how to set up a drone for mapping, and processing data for reports. This course is spread over several sessions held in both classroom and field settings.

  • Aerial photography is the most widely used drone application touching upon entertainment, real estate, inspection, mapping, and many other industries. Using cameras on drones introduces a new perspective, but also many new concepts that needs to be taken into consideration. Upon completing this course, students will have the fundamental skills to use drones for professional photography. This course is spread over several sessions held in both classroom and field settings.

    -Identify the different type of drones for photography

    -Understand photography concepts

    -Adjust camera settings manually

    -Execute appropriate shots for different applications
